Highly sophisticated: Hinge C-1 by Silhouette

It’s usually attention to detail that determines overall effect. Silhouette’s proverbial love for detail has already led to the eyewear industry’s biggest surprises and revolutions, proving again and again: there are indeed inventions which remain to be discovered in eyewear design!

Fast cars, impressive architecture, the latest high-tech solutions, haptics and structure, high quality leather, etc., are all icons which make men’s hearts race. Silhouette’s Hinge C-1 has now been added to that list. Its exquisite blend of material, technology and design has the potential to become man’s favourite toy.

The new Hinge C-1 Collection implements perfectly shaped, ingenious cylinder hinges, turning rimless eyewear into technical masterpieces. “Highly sophisticated” is the best description for the Hinge C-1, which is becoming a must have for every man with eyewear and is displaying the tendency to become a trendsetter.

Framed by two attractive decorative elements, the innovative cylinder hinge’s design flows between the cheek and a metal temple.

The interplay of high quality plastic elements and high tech titanium brings excitement to the Hinge C-1, refined by a silky soft lacquer finish, providing a haptical experience every time a pair is placed on or removed.

The selection of colours, based on timelessness, also displays sophistication: classic black dominates the colour combinations of Black Platinum and Phantom Black, while soft brown tones are also available with Coffee Gold and Light Caramel. The colour palette is rounded off by Emerald Green and Ruby Red.

The Hinge C-1’s rimless collection, ca. 80% handcrafted in Austria, will be available from specialist opticians worldwide starting in November.

Best eyewear brand: Silhouette wins renowned award in the USA

Silhouette was recently awarded the “EyeVote Readers’ Choice Award” from Jobson, a specialised American publishing company, after being voted the best brand in prescription eyewear.

More than 2,400 opticians, optometrists and other optical experts participated in the selection of the top eyewear brand in the autumn of 2009 on 2020mag.com – the online platform of the renowned American publication 20/20 – and on Vision Monday – found at visionmonday.com.

The results in the six categories were announced at the end of 2009. Much to Silhouette’s delight, the American eye care professionals voted the Silhouette brand, which specializes in tailored rimless eyewear, their favourite.

Silhouette received the most votes, making it the winner of the EyeVote Reader’s Choice Award in the category of “prescription eyewear”.

The EyeVote Readers’ Choice Award was announced in 2009 for the first time. About 2,400 participants had one month to submit votes in six categories for their favourite optical brands and products of the year.

“For us, who dedicate our lives to developing concepts and applying our love for detail to produce our eyewear, which is largely made by hand, this award is a delightful affirmation of our strategy. We place a lot of value in having personal contact with eye care professionals, offering top quality, Made in Austria, and providing the highest level of service possible. This constellation is our recipe for success. We would like to thank all who have recognised its value and supported us in the EyeVote Readers’ Choice Award – as well as in other awards – and promise to continue to do justice to the honour bestowed upon us”, declared Arnold and Klaus Schmied, the two directors and co-owners of the family-owned Silhouette International, in response to the award.

Revolution on the iPhone: Just a few clicks to harmonious eyewear

A program that has been running on www.silhouette.com for more than a year is now making the innovative eyewear brand – the only one in the world focusing exclusively on rimless design – accessible to all iPhone users: Virtual Mirror. Thanks to this unique application, it’s now possible to try on rimless eyewear and sunglasses in a playful, enjoyable manner, regardless of location and the time of day. The result – a portrait with rimless eyewear – can be sent to friends immediately by e-mail for appraisal and feedback.

Silhouette is the first eyewear brand in the world to offer (future) wearers this unique iPhone application, which can be used by anyone to select a pair of Silhouettes tailored to harmonise with his or her face – all in a manner that is flexible and fun.

For the first time in the history of eyewear, wearers have the fantastic opportunity to test the rimless Silhouette of their choice or try new designs and colours by taking a look into Silhouette’s virtual mirror. This provides wearers with the chance to form an initial impression or make a preliminary decision on the “real” pair they will have professionally adjusted by an eye care professional.

And this is how the application works on the iPhone:

Users take a photo with their iPhone or select an existing photo from an album. Easy-to-follow instructions guide them through the application. Users can try the models from Silhouette’s nearly endless line of variations that work for them.
